Simon Peter

Simon Peter

Originally named Simon, Jesus gave him the name Peter which means "The Rock". Peter is known for his strong-willed temper and extreme courage. He worked as a fisherman with his brother Andrew before following Jesus. He is one of the three disciples in Jesus' inner circle and he is also one of the only disciples known to be married.

James

James

James was a fisherman along with his brother John.
He was given the nickname "Son of Thunder" because of his stormy personality and eagerness to judge the enemies of God.
James is one of the three disciples in Jesus' inner circle where he witnessed many miracles of Jesus that the other disciples were not able to see.

John

John was raised as a fisherman with his brother James by their father Zebedee. Also given the nickname "Son of Thunder", John was known to be the closest disciple to Jesus and the last of the three in Jesus' inner circle. He was the first to arrive at the tomb of Jesus after his death and he also wrote five books of The Bible.

Andrew

Andrew

Andrew grew up in Bethsaida with his brother Simon as a fisherman.
He was a follower of the prophet, John the Baptist, before John sent him to Jesus.
Andrew is known to be the first disciple of Jesus and he spent his life spreading the Gospel of Jesus.

Matthew

Matthew

Before following Jesus, people did not like Matthew as he was a tax collector for the Roman government.
Being under Roman rule was considered the worst thing for the Jewish people.
He thought highly of himself, but after being called by Jesus he served others.

James

The Younger

James The Younger

The nickname, "The Younger", was given to James because there were two disciples called James that followed Jesus.
Leaving his home in Galilee, James preached the gospel all over Egypt and Palestine and was eventually put in charge of the Christian church of Jerusalem.

Judas

Judas Iscariot

Serving as the Treasurer of the disciples, Judas handled all of the money and finances as the disciples trusted him the most. He is most known for his betrayal of Jesus in return for thirty pieces of silver.
The way he showed the Roman army who to arrest was to kiss Jesus on the cheek.

Thomas

Thomas

Known as the pessimist of the disciples, Thomas was often questioned everything but was full of courage.
He earned his nickname, "Doubting Thomas" due to not believing the other disciples that Jesus had appeared to them after Jesus rose from the dead.

Bartholomew

Bartholomew

The son of the King of Geshur, Bartholomew was considered royalty. He is also known by the name Nathanael. He was a scholar of the law of Moses and of studied the prophets. He is often grouped with Philip as they were friends before following Jesus.

Philip

Raised in Bethsaida, Philip was also a fisherman and recently married and had a daughter named Leah.
He was very methodical and curious as he always had many questions he asked Jesus when he was preaching and teaching the other disciples.
He was in charge of handling all of the food for the disciples and he took the gospel to Ethiopia and Samaria.

The Zealot

Simon The Zealot

Being a Zealot for most of his life, Simon had a deep hatred for the Romans who were oppressing the Jewish people. The Zealots held a military faction in Israel where they trained men as assassins to fight the Romans. He also had a sense of compassion for Matthew when the other disciples despised him for being a tax collector and betraying the Jewish people.

Also known as Thaddeus by many, Jude was raised in Galilee along with his brother James the Younger. He was a militant man that was passionate and intense in nature. He originally thought that Jesus was going to be a military leader to save them from the oppressions of Rome but came to know Jesus' true cause. He preached in Persia and Assyria.
